CO Detectors are Now Mandatory in Ontario
All homes in Ontario that are equipped with a fuel-burning fireplace, furnace or have attached garages and carports are now required by law to have carbon monoxide Detectors (CO Detectors) installed on every floor, close to sleeping areas throughout the home.
CO is known as the silent killer with no odour, colour or taste and has killed over 400 Canadians in the past decade. If you already have existing CO Detectors they should also be checked regularly, especially during prime heating season, as they need replacing approximately every 5-7 years.
If your furnace is over ten years old, it’s likely operating inefficiently, wasting energy and it could even be unsafe; exposing you and your family to deadly, carbon monoxide leaks.
